The Perfume Herb Nearly all of the species of Pelargonium, or Scented Geranium, came from the Cape of South Africa to England in the mid-17th century. The aromatic foliage became quite popular among the Victorians. Before artificial food flavorings were produced, they used the scented leaves in the bottom of cake tins to flavor their desserts.
There are many different scented geraniums. They are very collectable plants. All are tender to frost and must be brought indoors in this growing zone.
Scented geraniums are so varied that they can look very effective grown in groups in the garden. They also make marvelous potted plants. They grow well, look great and smell lovely. Place the containers so that you can rub the leaves as you walk past. Pick the leaves during the growing season, for fresh use or for drying
