EGYPTIAN ONION
Allium x proliferum
This mild-flavored onion develops bulbs at the top of its slender leaves, not at the base like ordinary onions. These buibils are excellent for pickling and the entire plant maybe used for seasoning eggs, salads, soups and sauces. It is one of the perennial onions. You never have to replant it!
The stalks eventually flop over and the little onions can take root. It is also called the Walking Onion, as the plant will walk across your garden as each generation moves farther from the first plant.
If we plant the bulblet next spring, each will be a nice plant that can be pulled and eaten at any time. If we leave them in the ground they will make a top of bulblets the next year.
